Proposal Guide
Contents:
- Cover Letter:
This one-page letter should be addressed to Mystic Buddha
Publishing House. It should present a brief introduction to
the idea being proposed, including—if possible—a good
one-line handle. (A good handle for the Jason Shulman book,
The Instruction Manual for Receiving God,
for example, might be: “This is the first-ever how-to guide
to invoking God in your life, by the creator of the
enormously popular Society of Souls School.”) It may also
include a couple of lines about the author, including
previous sales history, what they do for a living, how
connected they are, etc.
- Title Page:
Title, Author, and Date. Please note that the title is
incredibly important. If you have a selling title, the rest
is easy. To continue with the Jason Shulman theme, The
Instruction Manual for Receiving God is an example of a
great title.
- Overview:
A summary of the proposal, and may be 1-2 pages long. It
should answer the following questions in a general
sense: Why is the author writing this book? What is the
book about? Who will be the readership? Please include
Table of Contents as well.
- Author Bio:
This is where the author gets to toot his/her own horn,
telling us all the reasons they are amazing. What they do
for a living, what books they have published, what kind of
audience they have, what kind of speaking engagements they
do, how many friends they have in high places, etc.
- Sample
Chapter: This is the most important part of the
proposal for me as an publisher. I want to know what voice
the book is going to take; whether the person can write or
not; how the material will be presented. It is what I jump
to first when I’m looking at a new proposal, personally,
especially if I’m not familiar with the author.
- Submission:
Please submit your proposal electronically to
Submissions@MysticBuddha.com. Proposals may be submitted in
PDF format or Microsoft Word. We will send you a confirmation that
we have received your materials. After we evaluate your
proposal, we will send email you our decision. Thank you for
your interest in publishing with us.
